Zero-emission vehicle

Also called: ZEV A zero-emission vehicle, or ZEV, is a vehicle classified as producing zero tailpipe CO2 under the relevant regulatory or statistical definition. In current UK vehicle statistics, the category includes battery electric and fuel cell electric vehicles. "Zero emission" in this context is a tailpipe classification. It does not mean that vehicle manufacture, electricity production or hydrogen production has no environmental impact. The UK's Vehicle Emissions Trading Schemes use a specific regulatory ZEV definition based on 0 g CO2/km under WLTP and other qualifying requirements. The exact legal definition should be checked when the term is used for compliance rather than general explanation.
