Embedded comms & control board

MinnoRay, compact embedded AC charge controller for volume EVSE

The connected controller for cost conscious chargers

MinnoRay is Versinetic's cost optimised compact smart communications controller for AC EV chargers. It gives you Ethernet, LTE Cat 1 bis, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity in one board, without the overhead of a full Linux based controller. It is designed to work alongside CongaEEL: MinnoRay handles communications, CongaEEL handles power and safety.

What it is

Communications on one board, power on the other

MinnoRay is the communications half of a two-board AC charger. It carries the connectivity and the controller functions; the CongaEEL board it stacks with carries the contactor, RCD and metering connections it is already engineered to interface with.

At a glance

  • Compact communications and controller board for AC EV chargers
  • 10/100 Ethernet, LTE Cat 1 bis modem, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity
  • Controls one or two sockets, single or three phase
  • Stacks with CongaEEL: one MinnoRay pairs with a single CongaEEL board for a single socket charger, or two CongaEEL boards for a dual socket charger
  • No ISO 15118 on this board. That sits on the CongaEEL board it pairs with
  • Plug & Charge ready as part of the MinnoRay and CongaEEL pairing

Why it matters

Not every charger needs a full Linux controller

Not every charger needs a full Linux based controller and the licensing overhead that comes with it. MinnoRay gives OEMs, CPOs and CEMs a simpler, lower cost route to a connected charger, without sacrificing the wired and cellular backhaul options that back-office integration depends on. Where a project needs the full flexibility of a Linux based, OCPP 1.6 compliant controller instead, MantaRay is the alternative, and it stacks with the same CongaEEL board.

Compared with a generic OEM control board sourced independently, MinnoRay comes with a proven stacking partner already engineered to interface with it (CongaEEL's contactor, RCD and metering connections), so integration and compliance testing do not start from a blank sheet.

Who MinnoRay is for

MinnoRay is built for OEMs, CPOs and CEMs building single or dual socket three phase AC chargers who want to manage unit cost without giving up dependable connectivity.

FAQs

Your top queries answered

What's the difference between MinnoRay and MantaRay?

MinnoRay is a cost optimised communications controller built for straightforward, connected AC charging with OCPP 1.6 compliance. MantaRay is a Linux based controller with the full flexibility of an open OS, OCPP 2.0.1 compliance with 2.1 in development, and onboard RFID authentication. Both stack with CongaEEL. Choose MinnoRay when unit cost and simplicity matter most, and MantaRay when you need Linux level customisation or are building a more feature rich charger.

Does MinnoRay support ISO 15118 and Plug & Charge?

Not directly. MinnoRay handles communications and controller functions but doesn't carry the ISO 15118 interface itself. That sits on the CongaEEL board it pairs with, which is ISO 15118 ready. So a MinnoRay and CongaEEL charger can support ISO 15118 and Plug & Charge, with the protocol handling done on the CongaEEL side.

What connectivity does MinnoRay offer for back-office integration?

MinnoRay includes 10/100 Ethernet for wired installations, an LTE Cat 1 bis cellular modem for sites without fixed internet, plus Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for local network access and installer diagnostics. That combination covers the backhaul options most OEMs and CPOs need without adding a separate connectivity module to the design.

Can one MinnoRay control a dual socket charger?

Yes. A single MinnoRay board pairs with two CongaEEL boards to control a dual socket, three phase charger. The controller doesn't need to double up when the socket count does. This keeps the bill of materials down on multi-socket designs compared with duplicating a full controller per socket.

Is MinnoRay a licensable design or a fixed product?

MinnoRay is available direct or under licence for high volume manufacturers who want to build it into their own charger design.
