What we do

Versinetic designs the control electronics and software inside AC electric vehicle chargers. We supply charge controller boards, load balancing hardware and charging software to EVSE manufacturers, charge point operators and installers, and we design bespoke chargers for companies who need something the standard range does not cover.

Our engineering team has been designing electric vehicle charge points since 2012, when we developed the graphical interface, metering, control and communications board for the charge posts installed at the London Olympic Games. We have worked on charge point projects continuously since, in the UK and internationally.

Where Versinetic came from

Versinetic exists because of a research project. Between 2018 and 2020, parent company ByteSnap Design worked in the VIGIL consortium alongside lead partner Nortech Management, Aston University and Grid Edge, funded by Innovate UK, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

VIGIL - VehIcle to Grid Intelligent controL - produced the UK's first end to end, fully integrated vehicle to grid system, demonstrated across two sites on the Aston University campus.

It won Innovation in V2G at the 2020 Electric Vehicle Innovation and Excellence Awards.

ByteSnap's contribution was RAY, a smart charge point communications controller that provided interoperability and control of any EV charger over OCPP. RAY became MANTARAY. The project also produced the EEL, an IEC 61851 AC charge controller board. Both are still in the range today.

ByteSnap Design is a services business. Versinetic was formed as a separate, spin-out company, launched publicly at CENEX LCV in November 2020.

Heritage

From a European demand control consortium in 2010 to the charge controller boards, load balancing hardware and software we ship today.

  1. 2010 to 2011

    MiDDaS

    ByteSnap joins the MiDDaS European consortium, developing a demand control system using an electric vehicle as a household energy store, with loads controlled according to grid state.

  2. 2012

    London Olympic Games

    ByteSnap designs the graphical interface, metering, control and communications board for GE's Durastation charge posts at the Summer Games. The replacement control system is more economical than the original and adds several new features.

    Further charge point projects

    A succession of EV charging system design projects for clients in the UK and internationally.

  4. April 2018

    VIGIL begins

    ByteSnap joins the VIGIL consortium, VehIcle to Grid Intelligent controL, alongside lead partner Nortech Management, Aston University and Grid Edge. Funded by Innovate UK, the Office for Low Emission Vehicles and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

    VIGIL completes

  6. November 2020

    Versinetic launches

    Launched at CENEX LCV with three products drawn from the VIGIL work: the EEL AC charge controller, MANTARAY smart charge point communications controller, and LinkRay EVSE load balancing controller. The OCPP charging station library follows, tested at international Plugfests.

How we work

Versinetic is a spin out of ByteSnap Design, an embedded systems consultancy certified to ISO 9001:2015. Our hardware and software engineers work on the same projects, which is how a design gets from specification to production support without being handed between suppliers.

Who we are

Versinetic is led by Dunstan Power, Managing Director and hardware lead, and Graeme Wintle, Managing Director and software lead, who also owns the LinkRay product line. Both co-founded the company in 2020.

The founding team also included Roland Bodlovic as Technical Director, who served until 2025, Robert Meeks as Head of Sales, and Catherine Power as Finance Director until 2023.

Dunstan is a chartered electronics engineer with over thirty years in the industry and a Cambridge degree in electronics engineering. He co-founded ByteSnap Design in 2008 with Graeme, and together they launched Versinetic during the 2020 lockdown.
