An apartment block normally has enough electrical supply for far more chargers than it can install without load balancing. LinkRay measures what the building is actually drawing and shares the remaining capacity across every charge point, so a whole block can charge on the supply already at the site. No grid upgrade, no subscription, and no restriction on which chargers you fit.
It works with any OCPP compliant charger, and with AC and DC units mixed on the same site, so you are not tied to one brand. Authorisation and usage are tracked per charger, so each resident is billed for the power they actually use. And the installation can be monitored and adjusted remotely, which removes most of the reasons for a return visit.
Fit several chargers in an apartment block without load balancing and the building's supply caps the scheme. Peak evening charging risks tripping the feed, which means outages, emergency callouts and unhappy residents. More often it means you simply cannot install the number of charge points the contract calls for, and the contract goes to someone who can.
Taking more power is rarely the answer. The G100 limit on the connection determines what the site may draw, and a network reinforcement often costs more than every charger in the scheme put together. Our site capacity check will tell you how many chargers a given supply will carry.
Billing is the second problem. Without per user authorisation and metering there is no fair way to charge individual residents for the electricity they use, which produces disputes, dissatisfied clients and no referrals.

Load balancing means sharing a fixed electricity supply across multiple EV chargers so none of them draw more power than the building's incoming feed can handle. Without it, a full car park charging overnight can trip the supply or force you into an expensive grid upgrade before you're allowed to install more than a couple of points. LinkRay monitors your site's meters in real time and shares out the available power dynamically, so you can fit more chargers into the capacity you already have.
That depends on your incoming supply capacity, not just the number of parking bays. A single LinkRay unit manages load balancing across up to 100 sockets, which covers most apartment blocks. In most cases, yes. Load balancing manages demand within your existing supply, it doesn't replace the Distribution Network Operator's requirement to be notified about new EV charging infrastructure, particularly for multi-charger commercial or communal sites. What it does is reduce the chance that your DNO comes back asking for a costly supply upgrade, because you're demonstrably managing peak demand rather than adding it uncontrolled. Always confirm current notification requirements with your DNO or a qualified electrical consultant before you finalise a design.
Yes. LinkRay tracks usage per charger and supports contactless authorisation, so each resident's charging session can be metered and billed separately rather than lumped into a shared service charge. Yes. LinkRay integrates with any OCPP-compliant charger, AC or DC, so you're not locked into a single brand. That matters on apartment retrofits especially, where you might be adding chargers to an existing mixed-brand site rather than starting from scratch.
Static load balancing splits a fixed power budget evenly (or by a set ratio) across chargers, whether or not a car is actually plugged in and drawing current. Dynamic load balancing, which is what LinkRay does, continuously reads real demand from your meters and reallocates power as it changes, so a charger with no car connected doesn't hold capacity hostage from one that's actively charging. For most apartment sites with varying resident arrival and departure times, dynamic is the more efficient of the two.
No. LinkRay doesn't require an expensive subscription-based back-office platform to manage load balancing on site, which keeps ongoing costs predictable for you and, in turn, for the property owner. If you do want a back-office layer for wider fleet or site management, our EV charging back-office software is available separately, on your terms rather than as a forced bundle.
You add another LinkRay and coordinate them with SiteManager, our supervisory layer built for exactly this situation.
