Plus ES is an Australian energy solutions provider specialising in helping businesses optimise energy usage through advanced metering and data delivery. Founded in 2017, the company offers precision metering, embedded network solutions and high voltage accuracy testing across both large and small markets.
Challenge
Ausgrid’s Banksmeadow depot had 800A of available supply, and Plus ES needed to fit multiple EV chargers inside it. The conventional route was to reinforce the connection, which would have added significant cost and lead time to a project where neither was welcome.
Three further constraints shaped the choice. The depot would run a mix of DC and AC chargers, so anything tied to a single charger brand was unsuitable. A revenue meter, an EDMI Mk 10D, was already installed on site, and Plus ES wanted to avoid adding a second metering cabinet alongside it. And because the site could not depend on a cloud connection for safe operation, the load balancing had to work offline.
This is a common position. A G100 import limitation or an equivalent site limit caps what a depot may draw, and reinforcement frequently costs more than every charger on the scheme put together.

Solution
Plus ES selected LinkRay because it is brand agnostic and runs entirely offline. It measures what the site is drawing and shares the remaining capacity across the connected chargers, holding the depot inside its 800A limit without any external system in the loop.
LinkRay was first installed in a cabinet with its own dedicated meter, independent of the main revenue meter. Following a software update it was connected directly to the EDMI Mk 10D already on site, removing the separate metering entirely. That change was made in response to the request rather than being an existing feature.
The depot currently runs a Kempower DC charger alongside two AC chargers, with a further eighteen chargers scheduled. LinkRay operates independently of any charge station management system, and Plus ES retain the option to add one later for authorisation, since LinkRay communicates over OCPP.
Impact
- Chargers installed within the site’s power limit, with no grid reinforcement and no associated cost or delay.
- Headroom for expansion to 100 charge points on a single LinkRay, which covers the planned rollout and beyond.
- A remote interface that Plus ES can reach externally, so day to day management does not require a site visit.
