OCPP 2.0.1 Library

Standards-based charge point communications

A ready-to-embed OCPP client for smart charge points. It interprets the communication between a Charging Station Management System and the charger - so you can add standards-based back-office connectivity to your product without rebuilding the protocol layer from scratch.

What it is

The communications layer for a smart charger

OCPP - the Open Charge Point Protocol - is the open standard that lets charge points and management systems talk to one another. Our library provides an OCPP client for your smart charger that interprets the communication protocols between the CSMS and the charging station.

It can communicate with every kind of charging station - whether an AC mains charger or a DC rapid charger - and connects to the back office that receives tariff information from the energy supplier, determines the best times to charge, and tells the charger how much power the vehicle can take. It is the piece that turns a dumb charger into a smart charging station.

Feature overview

  • Ready-to-embed OCPP client for smart charge points
  • Supports OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1 for maximum back-office compatibility, with 2.1 in development
  • Works with any CSMS or back office - no proprietary lock-in
  • Talks to AC mains chargers and DC fast / rapid chargers alike
  • Requests information, interprets messages and instructs the charge point
  • Available to license and integrate into your own charger product
  • Backed by embedded engineers building EV charging systems since 2011

How it fits together

One client, four moving parts

A smart charging deployment is a conversation between several systems. The OCPP client is the translator in the middle - requesting information, interpreting messages and instructing the charge point so each part behaves as it should.

CSMS ↔ charger

The library sits between your Charging Station Management System and the charge point, interpreting protocol messages in both directions.

Back office

Communicates with the energy supplier and tariff information to determine the best times to charge, and how much power the vehicle can take.

App control

Lets a phone or PC app override the back office when a vehicle needs charging sooner, applying user preferences on demand.

Smart charging

Turns a dumb charger into a smart charging station - the intelligence that makes remote control, metering and scheduling possible.

Protocol support

OCPP 1.6 today, 2.0.1 for what comes next

OCPP is an open standard with interoperability at its core - giving you a wide choice of hardware and network implementations. Supporting both the widely deployed 1.6 revision and the newer 2.0.1 specification means your product stays compatible today and ready for the capabilities the market is moving towards. Support for OCPP 2.1 is in development.

OCPP 1.6

The proven baseline

The most widely deployed revision across the charging network. Broad back-office support and battle-tested interoperability make it the safe foundation for connecting an existing fleet of chargers.

OCPP 2.0.1

Built for smarter charging

The newer specification, with richer device management, improved security and better support for smart charging scenarios. Building on 2.0.1 keeps your product aligned with where the standard is heading.

Why licence, not build

Reach the market without owning the protocol

01

Skip the protocol groundwork

OCPP is a large, evolving specification. Licensing a proven library means your engineers avoid months of implementing and validating the protocol layer from scratch.

02

Interoperability out of the box

OCPP is an open standard. Our client connects with any device running a CSMS, giving you the freedom to use whatever back office or smart charger you choose.

03

One client, every charger type

The same library talks to AC mains chargers and DC fast, ultra and rapid chargers - one integration effort across your whole product range.

04

Reduced compliance risk

Standards conformance is embedded from the start rather than retrofitted late, when certification and interoperability requirements become clear.

05

Licence or bespoke

Use the OCPP software product as-is, or take a software licence and let us tailor a unique, bespoke implementation around your requirements.

06

Engineers alongside your team

Software and hardware engineers work side-by-side, integrating easily into your team and supporting you throughout the charge point life cycle.

Integration

Two ways to bring OCPP into your product

Our charging modules of electronics design, software and consultancy mean you can build a totally custom solution to meet your requirements. Use the OCPP software product as it stands, or take a software licence and let us shape a unique, bespoke implementation around your platform.

Discuss integration

Embed the OCPP product

Integrate the ready-made OCPP client into your charger firmware for a standards-based back-office connection with minimal engineering overhead.

Licence and tailor

Take a software licence and have our engineers adapt the implementation to your hardware, back office and product roadmap.

Pair with MantaRay hardware

Run the library on the MantaRay controller for a proven hardware-and-software combination across AC and DC charge points.
