400 V / 800 V architecture

400 V and 800 V describe nominal high-voltage EV architecture families rather than one fixed battery voltage. Actual pack voltage changes with cell chemistry, state of charge and vehicle design. For the same electrical power, increasing voltage allows lower current. Lower current can reduce resistive losses and the conductor size or cooling burden needed for high-power charging. An 800 V vehicle still needs the charging system to operate across its required voltage range. Charger power depends on both voltage and current capability.
