Growing Stronger Roots: Versinetic Partners with Birmingham TreePeople

Share:

As Versinetic celebrates our 5th birthday milestone, we’re reflecting on our journey as a UK-based EV charging design consultancy and the values that have shaped us along the way.

Since launching our #GrowWithUs green initiative in 2022, Versinetic has been committed to our long-term reforestation collaboration.

Now, as we mark this special anniversary, we’re thrilled to announce our exciting new partnership, which brings our environmental commitment even closer to home.

Local Partner for Local Impact

We’re delighted to now partner with Birmingham TreePeople, to continue Versinetic’s #GrowWithUs scheme.

Matthew Cox, Operations Manager at the Birmingham-based charity explains more about their work:

“Birmingham TreePeople plant and establish new trees in the city, advocate for all trees across Birmingham and work directly with communities for greater tree equity.

They plant over 100 new large trees in the city each year, working in partnership with land owners and land managers.

Through a dedicated care team, they regularly water and maintain these young trees and the charity focuses their work in areas of city with low canopy cover.

Birmingham TreePeople plant large trees as they bring a greater immediate benefit for the environment and for people than smaller trees or whips.

They have a programme of activity that puts communities at the heart of decision making for their neighbourhoods using co-production techniques.

The charity support individuals and groups to make decisions about species and location selection, engagement workshops and aftercare.

Alongside tree planting and care, they have a funded programme of activity around data collection and a team of people surveying newly planted street trees to better understand how they are performing and what factors may affect their ability to thrive.

To date, the team has surveyed over 3,000 trees in the city, and counting. Birmingham TreePeople has a high level of experience and use this, plus their data, to push for changes in the way we establish trees in urban spaces.

The charity focuses on species diversity, hyper-local tree equity, climate change resilience and aftercare to help produce better trees and a stronger, more complex and adaptable urban forest.”

Why Environmental Support from Companies like Versinetic is needed

Each of the trees currently cost around £730 to plant and establish (care for) for the first three years of its life.

That’s why funding is essential for the charity, as they plant an average of 100 new urban trees each year.

For every new client Versinetic onboards, we’ll contribute 1% of our partnership value to Birmingham TreePeople’s vital work.

This will support the tree planting, along with the comprehensive three-year care programme that ensures each tree successfully establishes and thrives.

Beyond this, we are also happy to get involved with Birmingham’s urban forest. A few of our team recently enjoyed a tree pruning and maintenance workshop in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

Matthew let us know, “Funded by The National Lottery Community fund the workshop was led by myself and one of our trustees; Lawrence Weston.

The main aim of the workshop is tree care for some newly planted trees in the JQ. These trees were planted in the winter of 2014 and have thus completed their initial establishment and can have their stakes and ties removed and we can conduct some formative pruning to help encourage growth in a way that most benefits the tree whilst also suiting the site.”
