In an announcement made today, Dunstan Power, company director and driving force behind Versinetic, said, “Off- the-shelf EV charging solutions are currently saturating the market, but fall short.”

“We’ve had a sharp increase in enquiries, mainly from companies where basic chargers do not meet specific requirements. This has been for a variety of reasons; software limitations, communications or timing issues, UI compatibility, configuration of load sharing, and many more. Therefore, we have created versatile hardware and software products, backed by a flexible consultancy model to bring competitive, custom EV charging products to market.”.

Graeme Wintle, co-director to parent company ByteSnap Design, added, “We offer an experienced, reliable and enthusiastic team.  We have been designing EV charging technology since the 2012 London Olympics, have worked with the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) and were an integral part of the innovative Government backed V2G VIGIL consortium.”.

Why EV Charging Matters Now More Than Ever

Recent consumer research shows that nearly half of motorists are not ready for the 2035 switch away from fossil fuel vehicles [1]. However, the range of zero emission-capable car models may well bring a surge in coming years, with a predicted 200 currently in the pipeline. Indeed, many major car manufacturers are committing to the launch of new landmark electric cars. For example, the Korean car maker Hyundai recently announced their new ‘Ioniq’ sub-brand for electric models [2].

To keep up with increasing demand and in order to achieve the government’s current net zero target by 2050, the UK will need to commit more resources to the EV network. For example, Scottish Power predicts a requirement for 2.6 million public charging points by this deadline [3].

In addition, the Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have forecast an even tighter target of at least 2.8 million EV chargers to be built by 2035.

That would require approximately 507 new chargers to be installed every single day.

Our EV Charging Engineering Background

The new EV division, Versinetic, consists of a highly skilled team of hardware and software engineers, with long-standing experience in the EV charger space. As an award-winning embedded design consultancy, parent company ByteSnap has already established itself as an expert in custom EV charging solutions. We originally created GUI, metering, control & communications boards for GE Durastation at the London 2012 Olympics. Therefore, our engineering team has been deeply rooted in the EV market space for many years.

More recently, as part of an Innovate UK project consortium, our EV engineering team won the EVIEs award for Innovation in V2G Technology [4]. This was for our work on the VIGIL (Vehicle-to-Grid Intelligent Control) project, where we developed the communications adaptor for Vehicle-to-Grid/Building (V2G/V2B) systems.

VIGIL is the UK’s first fully-integrated V2G system and was backed by the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) and Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

Because one size doesn’t fit all

Over the past several years, our team has been approached by many charge point manufacturers and installers, who were unable to develop suitable smart chargers with the current off-the-shelf offering. It is clear that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for the next generation of charge points. With this in mind, Versinetic has been developed as a ‘building blocks’ company offering, remaining flexible and agile to allow for personalised charge point development.

Versinetic will provide electric vehicle charge point (EVCP) solutions through a range of software, hardware and consultancy services, all housed under one roof. With a primary focus on the commercial UK and EU electric vehicle market, the rapid charge point development is based around versatile ‘Charging Blox’.
